Cincinnati, OH Roof Replacement PROCESS
Step 1 (Prepping the site)
First, you’ll need to find another place to park your car. This is not only to protect it, but to give us room for our trailer. Pets get to take a vacation! While our crew is on site, please have another place for your pets to hang out. Take valuable, delicate objects (like flower pots and other decorative items) inside to protect them. Listen to the foreman onsite – he will always put your safety and the safety of the crew first.

Step 2 (Removing the Old Roof)
We start at the bottom and work our way up, removing the old materials as we proceed up the slope of your old roof.
Shingles are separated from the decking and disposed of. We remove the underlayment (or similar felt-paper material) Nails are removed and disposed of safely. We put protective measures in place for your exhaust systems and remove auxiliary items, like solar panels and satellite dishes.
Step 3 (Inspect Flashing)
We will closely inspect the chimney and other “penetration points” to ensure they’re properly protected. Counterflashing is crucial! A drip edge is a 2” lip that can be added to the base of the roof to help ensure water drains farther away from the base of the house. We will advise if this is found to be beneficial for your property.

Step 4 (Install Decking)
The decking of your roof is composed of wood. Keeping it free of moisture is crucial, and that’s what the underlayment does. It is typically composed of a “felt paper.” Heavier paper is used on roofs with a steeper incline. 15 or 30 pound paper will be used, depending on your roof. Metal Roofing has its own special requirements, and typically uses a synthetic underlayment instead of felt paper.
Step 5 (Install Roof)
We work quickly to get the new roof installed, often scheduling the project when weather is expected to be in our favor.

Step 6 (Cleanup)
To protect your pets and bare feet, we use a high-tech, high-powered magnet to scan the yard and surrounding areas and remove all metal fragments – including nails and other debris.
Step 7 (Final Inspection)
We then perform a final inspection to ensure everything is to our satisfaction. We review everything with you, the homeowner, to make sure it is also to your satisfaction before considering the job complete.

HOW ROOFS GET DAMAGED
A roof is composed of several individual components – from the framing and trussing to the underlayment, the shingles, caps, and more. Over time, some materials naturally decay due to exposure to the elements. Since different components wear out at different rates, it’s possible that a nearly flawless roof will need repair from a roofing contractor in Cincinnati, OH.
Some repairs may be necessary due to damage. Hail storms are notorious for causing damage that leads to leaking. Be wary of “storm chasers” – they’re contractors that don’t have an established reputation or office location in the area. Instead, if you experience storm damage, reach out to a company that specializes in dealing with the insurance company – All Insurance Restore.
WHY ROOFS NEED REPLACEMENT
Roof replacement in the tri-state area is most commonly necessary due to excessive age. Older roofs may actually be able to last longer than some newer installations, since their trussing and framing is made from “old growth” lumber. “Stick Homes” built in the 80s and 90s are more likely to have materials that are more susceptible to stress. Many roofs in Ohio around this time need to be replaced around the 30-40 year mark.
Some roofs need replacement in because a previous repair was not done correctly. If the roofing company used cheap materials or cut corners to increase their profit margins, this can lead to excessive moisture being trapped under the shingles and underlayment. This can lead to a number if issues that warrant more expensive and in-depth remediation. Always work with a company that has a good reputation and solid warranty to minimize your personal risk.
